  • in flower from january (or even december) to may
  • pollination done by small bees from Andrena genus
  • dry to moist , alkaline substrate on full sun  to mid-shade places
  • in mediterranean area, a common species

  • a robust orchid (20-80 cm in height)
  • the inflorescence is ussualy dense with 4 to 30 flowers
  • in flower from end of April to July (often only in some years and there are known cases when flowering and fruiting entirely under ground)
  • pollination is done by different species of Hymenoptera (Bombus or Anthidium), but cleistogamy is frequent
  • found in mostly mid-shade stations on cool, calcareous substrates (up to 2300m)
  • specially a Mediterranean species, rather common in the south sometime and very rare in northern stations
